Education goal

What will my child's degree cost?

Inflate today's fees to the year your child enrols, then work backwards to the SIP that funds it.

Needed when they turns 18

₹67,99,059

Only used to label the answer. It is not stored.

The whole course, not one year. Include living costs if the child will move away.

Fees have risen faster than general inflation for two decades. 8–10% is the usual working assumption.

Costs today
₹25.0 L
In 13 years
₹68.0 L
Already saved
₹2.00 L
Still to fund
₹60.2 L

A course costing ₹25,00,000 today costs ₹68.0 L by the year they enrol. The horizon here is fixed by the child’s age — unlike every other goal, it cannot be pushed back.

What this assumes

Fees inflate
At the education inflation you set
Cost figure
Whole course, paid at enrolment
Investment
Held at the same return throughout
Existing savings
Grow at the same return

What it does not account for

  • Fees paid in instalments across the course years, which reduces the corpus needed slightly.
  • Currency risk on overseas education. A rupee that weakens 3% a year against the dollar adds materially to the bill.
  • Scholarships, education loans and the interest deduction available under Section 80E.
  • The glide down to debt in the final three years, which lowers the effective return near the goal.
